Newly marked parking spaces in downtown Orlando with people walking

News Summary

Orlando’s Community Redevelopment Agency has initiated a new parking program adding 150 temporary public parking spaces to ease downtown traffic. The program features two lots with varied hours and a digital wayfinding system planned for improved navigation. This pilot program will run for one year, responding to community feedback to enhance accessibility during bustling events.

Orlando Rolls Out New Downtown Parking Initiative: Say Hello to 150 Temporary Spaces!

In an exciting move to enhance accessibility in the heart of the city, Orlando’s Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) has launched a fresh parking initiative aimed at easing the hustle and bustle of downtown traffic. With around 150 new temporary public parking spaces now available, residents and visitors alike may finally breathe a little easier!

New Parking Lots to the Rescue!

The new spaces are strategically established within two convenient parking lots in downtown Orlando. The first lot is nestled on Pine Street between Garland Avenue and Hughey Avenue. This lot offers 3-hour public parking from 11 AM to 4 AM—which is fantastic for those late-night dinners or early-morning adventures! Meanwhile, the second lot can be found on Central Boulevard, also between Garland and Hughey, where parking is available daily from 6 PM to 3 AM.

A Trial Run for a Year

This new initiative is set as a one-year pilot program, aiming to boost safety, efficiency, and overall user-friendliness for everyone traversing downtown Orlando. The addition of these parking spaces is designed specifically to lessen the traffic congestion that often arises during bustling downtown events where an impressive crowd of over 15,000 guests flock to the entertainment district.

Paying Made Simple!

For those eyeing a spot in the Pine lot, parking can easily be handled via the ParkMobile app. However, it’s important to note that these spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis, meaning no reservations can be made in advance—so plan to get there early if you want to snag a space!

Revamped Urban Space: Welcome, The Canopy!

In addition to the parking initiative, there’s been a recent name change in the area that’s turning heads—what was once known as the Under-I Project has officially been rebranded as The Canopy. The new name was inspired by a design transformation that beautifully merges elements of nature and technology, capturing the essence of Orlando’s vibrant style and its close-knit neighborhoods.

Listening to the Community

A city survey conducted earlier revealed that parking emerged as one of the top three concerns for downtown Orlando residents. The city is taking this feedback seriously, with plans to implement digital signs that provide real-time information about available parking spots. This is all aimed at reducing traffic congestion and smoothing out crowd management, especially during those event-heavy weekends.

Better Navigation Ahead!

To further improve parking logistics, an engineering firm has been brought on board to develop a digital wayfinding system. This system will assist drivers in finding available parking spots more efficiently, steering them away from the frustration of endless circling around the block.

Investment in a Parking-Savvy Future

The CRA isn’t skimping on budget, either! They’ve set aside $100,000 to collaborate with the city on this essential downtown enhancement. In fact, the digital wayfinding project has a total budget of $155,393, awarded to BCC Engineering. The design phase of these innovative signage systems is expected to last around nine months before moving forward with construction and installation.

In conclusion, with these new initiatives, Orlando is taking great strides toward making downtown a friendlier, more accessible place for everyone. So, whether you’re heading out for a night on the town or visiting for a special event, you’ll hopefully find that navigating downtown just got a whole lot easier!
