This June, Orlando is buzzing with excitement as the city prepares for its 9th Annual CommUNITY Rainbow Run, set to take place on June 7, 2024. This heartwarming event, presented by Orlando Health, celebrates unity and aims to honor the memory of victims of the tragic shooting at Pulse nightclub back in 2016.
The run will kick off at Orlando City Hall, following the beloved route from previous years. The course takes participants past Orlando Health and the renowned Pulse nightclub, adding a meaningful touch to the run as it reaffirms community solidarity. As an inspiring development, a memorial honoring the victims is being constructed at the site, with plans for it to be unveiled in late 2027.
If you’re excited to lace up your running shoes, mark your calendars! The day will commence bright and early, with registration starting at 6:00 a.m. and the race itself kicking off at 7:30 a.m.. The event features a 4.9k run/walk, giving everyone a chance to join in, regardless of fitness level. And for the little ones, there’s a delightful Kids Fun Run scheduled for 9:00 a.m., ensuring the whole family can participate in this joyous occasion.
As if the run wasn’t enough to get you thrilled, the day will also feature the CommUNITY Festival, which promises a lively atmosphere filled with fun, music, and vibrant community spirit. It’s a fantastic opportunity to mingle with locals and cherish the strength and resilience of the Orlando and queer communities.
Joining this event goes beyond just crossing the finish line. Your participation supports those directly affected by the Pulse tragedy. Net proceeds from the run will benefit the Orlando United Pulse Memorial, ensuring that the memory and legacy of the victims are honored. This important initiative falls under the umbrella of Strengthen Orlando, the City of Orlando’s 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
For those unable to attend in person, fear not! A virtual participation option allows supporters from around the globe to join in on the spirit of the day. You can still be part of this wonderful event, no matter where you are!
Following the Rainbow Run, the City of Orlando will oversee the Annual Remembrance Ceremony on June 12, commemorating those lost in the 2016 tragedy. This ceremony comes in the wake of the dissolution of the onePULSE Foundation two years ago, making it crucial for the community to stand together during this poignant time.
