Orlando was buzzing with excitement as the Oklahoma State Cowgirls Softball team clinched a nail-biting 4-3 victory over UCF on Saturday, sealing a much-deserved series win. This game had everything a baseball fan could want—high stakes, impressive performances, and even a touch of drama!
In a match that kept everyone on the edge of their seats, it was Amanda Hasler who shone the brightest. She hit not one, but two huge two-run home runs during the game, becoming the heart and soul of the Cowgirls’ offense. Hasler alone contributed to all four of the Cowgirls’ runs, showcasing her talent and determination. With her remarkable homers, she now stands proudly in fifth place for the most home runs in the Big 12, boasting an impressive total of twelve this season.
However, it wasn’t all smooth sailing for the Cowgirls. The team faced a tough start, being held no-hit by UCF’s pitcher through the first five innings. Things changed dramatically in the top of the sixth when Rosie Davis managed to earn a walk. This opened the door for Hasler, who knocked her first home run of the game out of the park, breaking the silence and putting the Cowgirls on the scoreboard.
Just when it seemed like the Cowgirls had control of the game, UCF’s Izzy Mertes tied everything up with a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh. This forced extra innings and ramped up the intensity. The Cowgirls and their fans had to hold their breath as the tension in the stadium reached a peak.
In true competitive spirit, Hasler once again stepped up in the top of the eighth, belting her second home run of the game. This powerful hit gave the Cowgirls a 4-2 lead, reigniting their hopes for victory. Yet UCF wasn’t done yet; Mertes responded with an RBI double in the bottom of the eighth, narrowing the score to 4-3. The stage was set for a fierce finish as both teams fought hard for every inch.
All the while, it was Ruby Meylan who showcased her pitching prowess on the mound. Meylan pitched a complete game, going all eight innings while allowing only six hits, three runs, and a striking ten strikeouts. Her ability to keep calm under pressure not only earned her a victory, improving her season record to an impressive 17-6 but also helped the Cowgirls maintain a solid overall record of 27-15, with 8 wins and 8 losses in Big 12 play.
As the Cowgirls bask in the glow of their hard-fought victory, they set their sights on their next challenge. A thrilling match against the No. 3 team, Texas, awaits them back home this Wednesday at 7 p.m. Following that, they’ll travel to Lawrence, Kansas, for a crucial series against the Jayhawks next weekend.
All in all, this game showcased not just the skills on the field but also the indomitable spirit of the Cowgirls. With the recent ejection of head coach Kenny Gajewski due to a disagreement with the umpires, tensions were high, but the team rallied together, proving that they have each other’s backs. The Cowgirls continue to build on their momentum with exciting games ahead, and fans can’t wait to see what they bring to the field next.
