News Summary

Disc golf is surging in popularity with over 15,000 courses worldwide. The valley proudly hosts several local courses catering to all skill levels. The upcoming 2024 events promise thrilling competitions, including the renowned Las Vegas Challenge. Join the fun and explore disc golf in your area!

Disc Golf Takes Off with Flair in the Valley!

Have you noticed folks tossing flying discs around the local parks? That’s right! Disc golf is experiencing a surge in popularity, especially during the pandemic, much like the viral sensation of pickleball. Whether you’re a newbie or a pro, this fun sport is catching on faster than you can say “fore!”

The Rise of Disc Golf

According to the latest report from UDisc, which dives into the booming world of disc golf, there are now over 15,000 disc golf courses worldwide—can you believe it? That means the number of courses has *doubled* since just 2017! With the game growing in leaps and bounds, it’s no wonder our valley is jumping onto the disc golf bandwagon with gusto.

Local Love for Disc Golf

Here in the valley, we boast at least seven disc golf courses. Some are pay-to-play, while others are private. To put that in perspective, Washington D.C. has only two courses, and New York City has just one! So, we’re definitely ahead of the game. UDisc allows players to search for courses based on difficulty levels, amenities, accessibility, and even the length of the course, so finding the right spot for your skill level is a breeze.

Most disc golf courses typically come with either 24, 18, or 9 holes, and those cute mini courses with 9 holes are ideal for beginners. Now, if you’re itching to hit some local courses, here are a few recommended spots:

– **Peccole Ranch:** This is the highest-rated public course, boasting 18 holes that challenge even the most experienced players.
– **Red Ridge Park:** Truly a beginner-friendly gem, this mini course makes for a perfect introduction to the sport with its 9 holes.
– **Sunset Park:** Heading to the longest public course in the valley? This beauty has 24 holes, but be warned— it can get crowded at peak times.
– **Mountain Crest:** A favorite among intermediate players, this 18-hole course is often buzzing with local disc golfers.
– **Wildhorse Golf Club:** For just $15 per player (including golf cart rental), you can enjoy over 20 holes, but don’t forget to book your tee time in advance!

Exciting Tournaments on the Horizon

Speaking of buzz, the excitement continues with the Las Vegas Challenge, which kicked off the 2023 Disc Golf Pro Tour season! This **annual tournament** has been around since 2000, originally known as the Gentlemen’s Club Challenge, featuring only 44 participants back in the day. Fast forward to 2023, and now it has expanded to host 176 professional athletes. Talk about growth!

The name change from the Gentlemen’s Club Challenge to the Las Vegas Challenge was a strategic move to attract new sponsors and keep the event positive. From 2000 to 2015, Sunset Park was the original venue, but it has since relocated to Wildhorse Golf Club, thanks to the phenomenal organization from the Las Vegas Disc Golf Club, which has hosted noteworthy events.

Looking ahead, the 2024 A-Tier schedule already promises an astonishing 225 A-Tiers, with the next Las Vegas Challenge slated for May 9-12, 2024. Can’t wait for that showdown between top-notch disc golfers as it takes place between two other Disc Golf Pro Tour events!

Additionally, the 2024 Disc Golf Masters Tour is set to shake things up by reducing events from 21 to 17, showcasing the most popular courses. On top of that, new qualifying pathways to a Tour Card through the Q-Series are being developed for next year.

And let’s not forget the recent champions! Catrina Allen and Calvin Heimburg proudly took the crown as the 2023 Las Vegas Challenge champions. With the sport gaining momentum and fresh competitions rising, the future of disc golf in our valley is looking brighter than ever.

So, grab a disc, head out to one of those fantastic courses, and join the fun! Whether you’re practicing your throws or simply enjoying a lovely day outdoors, disc golf is where the excitement is at!
