Sponsor Our ArticlesFlorida is home to over 1,450 golf courses, many of which are now being recognized as top destinations for golfers nationally. Prestigious rankings highlight the Bay Hill Club & Lodge, and new courses like The Park in West Palm Beach reflect a community-focused approach to golf. Courses like Cabot Citrus Farms and the Ocean Course at Ponte Vedra offer fresh experiences, while iconic locations maintain their allure. Golf fans are encouraged to explore these premier courses that capture the spirit and challenge of the game.
Florida is a golf lover’s paradise, boasting over 1,450 golf courses scattered throughout the state. While many of these courses often fly under the radar, recent rankings have shone a bright light on Florida’s most elite golfing destinations, revealing spectacular designs that are worth every swing.
In a recent showcase, several Florida courses made it to America’s 100 Greatest and the Best in State lists. Among them, one gem stands out: Bay Hill Club & Lodge. Nestled in Orlando, this club is known for its stunning hilly terrain and unique sinkhole ponds. Fan-favorite and golfing legend, Arnold Palmer, once owned and renovated this magnificent course, making it a staple on the golfing map. There’s something special about Bay Hill, especially since it has played host to the iconic Arnold Palmer Invitational, where the one and only Tiger Woods clinched victory an astounding eight times.
Turn your gaze to West Palm Beach, where a brand new course named The Park opened its doors in March 2023. This public course is a product of community collaboration, co-designed by local citizens alongside the PGA of America CEO, Seth Waugh. The Park replaces the older Dick Wilson-designed West Palm Beach Golf Course, which had seen better days. With a whopping $56 million redevelopment effort, The Park aims to bring accessible and enjoyable golf to everyone.
Not far from there, at Cabot Citrus Farms, a magnificent transformation has taken place with the course Karoo, redesigned by Kyle Franz. Golfers can now enjoy a fresh experience where Pine Barrens used to lie, providing a new spin on an old favorite.
Over in Ponte Vedra, the Ocean Course at the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club poses a thrilling challenge with its high shot options, all while being at the mercy of the coastal winds. Such a test for golfers, paired with breathtaking views, makes this course an impressive destination.
For those well-connected in the golfing world, there are exclusive options such as Shadow Creek in Las Vegas, which provides a luxurious golfing experience, and the renowned Augusta National Golf Club, home to the illustrious Masters tournament. Yet, if you’re in Florida, you won’t want to miss the famed TPC Sawgrass and its unforgettable Island Green 17th hole, beloved by fans and players alike.
Florida’s golf scene is evolving, with newer courses like Cabot Citrus Farms and The Park reflecting a trend toward modern golf course development that emphasizes community and accessibility. Moreover, the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island and Innisbrook Resort’s Copperhead Course, known for the tricky “Snake Pit” stretch, have solidified their places in the lineup of vibrant golfing destinations.
Florida’s golf courses are not just about putting balls on greens; they represent a flourishing community of sportsmanship, camaraderie, and passion. Check them out to elevate your golfing experience!
