King was lovingly raised by volunteers Chris and Erika Dold, who dedicated ten years of their lives to preparing him for this moment. They have been involved with Canine Companions since its early days, making their commitment part of a legacy that extends beyond their family.

In August 2022, King transitioned back to Canine Companions for professional training before making his big debut at the graduation event, ready to take on the world together with his new owner.
