Orlando’s LGBT+ Center Teams Up for Free Fitness Classes

Exciting news for Orlando residents! The LGBT+ Center Orlando is partnering with personal trainer Kevin Stockford to launch a series of engaging and free fitness classes in February 2025. These classes target individuals living with HIV and those using PrEP medications, aiming to boost both health and confidence in the local community.

Mark Your Calendars!

Set your reminders for February 4 and February 6! The first class, aptly named “Prepped for Vitality,” kicks off on February 4 at 1:15 p.m. This session is specifically tailored for those using PrEP medications, helping participants enhance their overall health and resilience against illness.

Just two days later, on February 6 at 1:15 p.m., join “Move with Positivity,” a class devoted to helping HIV-positive individuals improve their joint mobility and overall physical fitness.

Meet the Expert: Kevin Stockford

With an impressive 14 years in the fitness industry, Kevin Stockford brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to these sessions. He’s a certified trainer with the National Federation of Professional Trainers and Functional Range Conditioning. Besides his personal training expertise, he collaborates with the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, aligning fitness with essential healthcare for those living with HIV and AIDS.

Why Fitness Matters

Research underscores the benefits of regular exercise for individuals living with HIV. A notable 2017 study indicates that engaging in strength training and aerobic exercises can lead to improvements in muscle mass, bone health, and immune function. Additionally, exercise has been linked to decreased inflammation and better immune health, making it a vital component of comprehensive care.

What to Expect in the Classes

Each class is designed not only to get participants moving but also to educate them about their bodies. In “Prepped for Vitality,” attendees will explore various exercises that support their specific needs as PrEP users. Meanwhile, “Move with Positivity” will focus on enhancing joint movement and the range of motion, particularly beneficial for older individuals.

Empowerment Through Movement

Kevin Stockford is passionate about combining advocacy with fitness, believing that movement can lead to empowerment. His goal is to help participants feel better physically, mentally, and emotionally. He wants everyone to leave the classes feeling more confident and happier in their everyday lives.

Looking Ahead

These two initial classes are just the beginning! Kevin has plans for additional sessions in the future, aiming to reach and inspire as many individuals as possible. He strongly believes in bridging pharmacy and fitness as an essential part of HIV treatment, providing a holistic approach to health and wellness.

The Community Role

The AIDS Healthcare Foundation plays a crucial role in supporting various services that include wellness centers and thrift stores, contributing significantly to HIV/AIDS services. By participating in these fitness classes, individuals can take proactive steps towards improving their overall health.

Join the Movement

So, Orlando residents, if you’re HIV-positive or using PrEP medications, this is your chance to be part of something special. Come on out to the LGBT+ Center Orlando on February 4 and February 6 to engage in a positive, supportive community setting. You deserve to feel great, and with these classes, you can start your journey toward health, confidence, and happiness!
