As the iconic outdoor golf driving ranges of Southwest Florida fade into the sunset, a new trend is blooming indoors: golf simulators. And one place that’s truly taking advantage of this trend is The Cave, which recently opened its doors at 9250 Corkscrew Road, Suite 13, Estero. This spot is not just a place to practice your swing but a vibrant bar serving delicious food while you indulge in your favorite game.
The Cave was co-founded by Karen Nicoletti, a professional golfer with the LPGA, and her husband Brad Swearingen, who once made waves as a professional golf caddy. They opened The Cave on **February 4** with a mission to make golf more accessible and enjoyable. In an effort to give back, they offer free women’s golf clinics every Monday and discounts for veterans, police officers, firefighters, emergency medical services workers, and educators. Talk about a community-focused endeavor!
The Cave operates daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. In terms of gaming, it’s a popular spot, charging only $50 an hour for one of their cutting-edge simulators, which can host up to six players. Think about it: you can gather your friends, enjoy some wings and pizza, and get your swing going—all in a relaxed, indoor atmosphere.
Nicoletti has observed that “the pandemic was great for the game of golf.” While public golf courses are thriving, affordability continues to be a challenge for many. For those who want a taste of the prestigious Pebble Beach course, you’ll be pleasantly surprised—trying the virtual version at The Cave is a lot easier on the wallet than the real thing, which won’t come cheap at nearly $800 to play!
It’s worth noting that many of the driving ranges in the area have been replaced by other businesses—just last year, a driving range on Alico Road was turned into an Amazon distribution center. Not to mention the one off Daniels Parkway, which became a Whole Foods Market. In contrast, golf simulators only need a small footprint of a few hundred square feet! This makes it possible for places like The Cave to thrive.
Swearingen found inspiration for The Cave after a back injury sidelined his caddying career. “He needed a Plan B” during his recovery, Nicoletti explained.
This led to the concept of The Cave, also fondly known as “The Man Cave.” Remarkably, Swearingen built the establishment with his own hands, making it a labor of love.
Looking ahead, The Cave plans to install two indoor pickleball courts later this year, expanding their offerings even more. Until then, they’re drawing in plenty of clients with their golf simulators, and also providing lessons for every skill level. “Here, you don’t have to worry about being intimidated,” Nicoletti reassures. “This is a community-friendly space where everyone—from beginners to seasoned pros—can enjoy themselves without that fear factor.”
Swearingen demonstrated the simulator by hitting a ball into the screen, showcasing just how realistic the experience is. The moment the real ball smacked the screen, the virtual projection continued its journey onto the green. Golfers can even take shots from sand traps or putting greens! Swearingen notes, “It might take a little getting used to, perhaps a hole or two, because there’s no horizon for depth perception. However, it’s so accurate and so realistic that you quickly feel like you’re on a real golf course. Just wait and see—it’s incredibly lifelike!”
With places like The Cave making waves in the golf scene, it’s clear that we’re entering a new age of golf entertainment. So, why not gather your friends, grab a bite to eat, and unleash your inner pro at this exciting indoor venue? Whether you’re teeing off for the first time or you’re a seasoned golfer, The Cave has something for everyone!
