Kick Off With a Walk!

The Mid-Florida Milers Walking Club is starting the year off with sponsored walks in Orlando’s Downtown South on January 4. Gather at Beardall Senior Center between 8:30-9:15 a.m. and choose your distance—either a 10K (6.2 miles) or a 5K (3.1 miles). Not to worry about breaking the bank, as it only costs $4 per person, and if you’re walking with a child aged 12 or younger, they can join in for free!

Bird Watching Basics!

Got a love for nature? Join the Orange Audubon Society for a three-part Beginner Bird Watching class on January 5, 11, and 25. This class will be hosted in beautiful locations like Orlando Wetlands Park. Registration is necessary, and it costs $60 for members and $75 for non-members. Kids can join for just $10.

Get Your Green Thumb On!

Are you ready to learn about gardening? Look no further! The UF/IFAS Extension Orange County is hosting “Pop Up” Plant Clinics at various libraries throughout Orlando. Visit the Chickasaw Branch on January 9, the South Creek Branch on January 10, and the West Oaks Branch on January 11 to get your gardening queries answered.

Financial Planning for Futures

Thinking about your financial future? Don’t miss the seminar, “Preparing for Retirement: Financial Ways to Survive,” happening on January 9 at the Southeast branch of the Orange County Library System, starting at 10:30 a.m.. Best of all, it’s completely free to attend!

Feel the Rhythm of West Africa!

Experience the charm of West African music with Sean Gaskell, who will be performing a Kora concert on January 9 at the Chickasaw Branch at 3 p.m. and again at the Southeast Branch on January 11 at 2 p.m.. The concerts are free, so swing by to enjoy some beautiful tunes!

Find Your Zen with Yoga!

Seeking relaxation? Look no further than “Yoga in the Gardens” at Harry P. Leu Gardens. Sessions are scheduled for January 11 and January 26 from 10-11 a.m. Participation costs $17 for members and $22 for nonmembers, and registration is required!

Support for Grief and Loss

Have you or someone you know experienced a recent loss? Join the GriefShare session focusing on the loss of a spouse or partner on January 12 from 2-4 p.m. at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. Understanding and support are key, and this program could be just what you need.

Workshops and Community Engagement!

From Eco-Friendly Landscaping to Gardening Workshops, the month is packed with opportunities to learn and engage. A Basics of Landscaping workshop on January 15 costs $25, and an introduction to sustainable landscaping principles on January 16 is just $10, both at the UF/IFAS Extension Orange County.

Make a Difference with Baseball!

Interested in sports memorabilia? Head over to the Bahia Shrine Center for a Baseball Card and Memorabilia Show on January 17-18, with a small admission fee of $2 benefiting homeless children.

Gardening for Pollinators

If you love gardening and want to support our bee friends, don’t miss the workshop on “Gardening for Native Pollinators and Honey Bee Nutrition” at Harry P. Leu Gardens on January 18. Make sure to register, as fees are $18 for members and $23 for nonmembers.

Tire Disposal & Health Program

In addition to these events, there will be a Free Tire Disposal Event on January 11 to recycle residential tires—always good for our environment! Plus, a “Food is Medicine” program featuring nutrition classes begins on January 15 at the Harmony Community Center.
