With a blend of personal experiences influencing his art, Wise’s journey is one of resilience and creativity. This summer, Wise and his band showcased their talent at Will’s Pub in July, captivating the audience with their original sound.
From Childhood Struggles to Musical Creativity
Originally from Baltimore, Wise’s childhood was marked by frequent relocations and emotional challenges. These experiences, compounded by the difficulty of embracing his sexual identity, propelled him towards music as a means of expression. “I was humming songs before I could even use words,” Wise reflected, highlighting the deep connection he felt with music from an early age.
Wise’s passion for music blossomed into songwriting once he learned to write. He began crafting lyrics that reflected his inner thoughts and emotions, eventually leading him to pursue a degree in writing and rhetoric at UCF, which he completed in August. “Studying writing felt like a good middle ground between my passions and opportunities for a potential professional pursuit,” he explained.

Utilizing his education, Wise has been effective in promoting his music through social media, particularly TikTok, where he has amassed over 200,000 followers. His engaging content, primarily focused on comedy, serves to connect with fans on a personal level while drawing attention to his music. “I hope to utilize the platform to boost my passion for music,” Wise stated.
A Natural Performer
Performing is second nature for Wise, influenced by his involvement in youth groups and theater during his childhood. His friend and fellow UCF alumna, Gabrielle Jones, praised Wise’s stage presence, saying, “He exudes confidence when he’s onstage … it’s obvious that he’s in his element and exactly where he belongs.” This confidence translates into his music, allowing him to communicate personal narratives effectively.
Focus on Storytelling Through Music
Wise has made storytelling a central theme in his music. Leading 22 in Jersey, he guided the band during their first performance at UCF’s Battle of the Bands earlier this year. The group fuses different musical genres, primarily focusing on an alternative-funk style. While acknowledging that band members may go their separate ways post-graduation, Wise cherishes the connections and memories they’ve created together.
“I’ve always valued storytelling in music … I want people to recognize the stories I tell and listen,” he emphasized, underscoring his dedication to this craft. Despite primarily identifying with the alternative genre, Wise envisions exploring various styles, reflecting his diverse musical influences. “I want to use my education in writing and rhetoric to construct narratives that resonate with listeners,” he explained.
