The day began with alarming reports of violence in a residential area when a frantic call was made to 911 by the daughter of a 30-year-old woman. Describing a horrific scene, she reported that her father was violently attacking her mother. Investigations revealed that Lopez allegedly assaulted his ex-girlfriend in a shocking manner, attempting to suffocate her using a cleaning cloth soaked with Fabuloso. The brutal assault left the victim with severe injuries, including fractures to her jaw, eye socket, and cranium.
As the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office responded to the emergency, Sergeant James Hager attempted to apprehend Lopez. However, the confrontation turned violent when Lopez punched the sergeant and attempted to wrestle away his gun. As the chaos unfolded, the sergeant, stunned and likely experiencing a rush of adrenaline, exclaimed in disbelief about the theft of his patrol vehicle. Meanwhile, Lopez took to the roads, driving erratically and creating a dangerous scenario for anyone nearby. His reckless behavior soon caught the attention of a 46-year-old woman as he dramatically pulled her over while impersonating a police officer. Shockingly, Lopez forcefully ordered her out of her own SUV, carjacking her in a tense moment that left witnesses stunned.
As deputies and state troopers rushed to the scene, a high-speed chase erupted. The pursuit reached terrifying speeds, with law enforcement in hot pursuit of Lopez as he barreled down the highway. Eventually, the stolen SUV crashed near mile marker 104, rolling over and bringing the chaotic chase to a crashing halt. When deputies arrived at the scene, they found Lopez pinned under the overturned vehicle and needed to pull him free.
