Lakeland, Florida is the newest home for Metro Diner, an all-American brand that aims to satisfy the local appetite for comfort food. This latest location marks the eighth Metro Diner in the greater Tampa area, bringing a flavorful menu to the people of Lakeland.
The new Lakeland Metro Diner is managed by Steve Sullivan, a local native who has a long history in the restaurant business. Sullivan began his career in the same shopping complex where the diner is located. He expressed excitement about serving familiar, hearty meals to his fellow community members. “I’m excited to be serving my neighbors the hearty meals they love,” he stated. Sullivan, alongside his wife Cody, who have been married for 18 years and share two children, is committed to enhancing the local dining experience.
Metro Diner offers a menu filled with mouth-watering, classic American comfort food. Featured selections at this location include Scramble Bowls, Charleston Shrimp & Grits, and the beloved Iron City Meatloaf. One dish that stands out is the Fried Chicken & Waffles: featuring half a fried chicken on a Belgian waffle, topped with powdered sugar, strawberry butter, and served alongside Metro Diner’s signature sweet-and-spicy sauce. This dish, along with the diner’s other selections, has caught the eye of celebrity chef Guy Fieri, who featured Metro Diner on his show, Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. Sullivan’s personal favorite from the menu is the Double Decker BLT, described as “loaded with bacon, lettuce, tomato, and mayo.”
The diner is situated at 5293 Florida Avenue South in the Lakeland South Center, a location that has recently undergone renovations to welcome the restaurant. The spacious 3,500-square-foot establishment features 122-seat dining and is designed to provide a cozy environment for families and friends to gather.
For now, the Lakeland Metro Diner is open for breakfast and lunch from Monday through Thursday from 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM. Dinner service is anticipated to begin soon, further expanding the dining options available to local patrons. Those interested in learning more about the diner or making a reservation can call 863-250-0817.

This new establishment not only caters to comfort food lovers but also supports community connection by bringing neighbors together over shared meals.
Beyond being a business owner, Sullivan is an active member of the community. He volunteers with the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization, demonstrating his commitment to positively impacting the Lakeland area. As he embarks on this new venture, he is significantly focused on making a difference while also providing delicious meals that residents can enjoy.
With its promising offerings and community-oriented approach, the new Metro Diner in Lakeland is poised to become a local favorite for those craving all-American comfort food.
