This was Schniederjans’s first appearance in India, and he certainly made it a memorable one. Competing at the DLF Golf and Country Club near Delhi, he finished the tournament with an impressive score of 10-under-par, clinching victory by a four-shot margin!
Schniederjans’s journey to the top wasn’t without its challenges. In the final rounds, he showcased stellar golf, shooting a 3-under 69. Meanwhile, his closest competition, Bryson DeChambeau, was hot on his trail, recording the best round of the day with an incredible 65. However, earlier rounds of 71, 72, and 74 took their toll, leaving DeChambeau at a total score of 6-under and firmly in second place.
Tied for third were Joaquin Niemann and Abraham Ancer, both finishing at 2-under. The golf course itself proved to be a tough challenge, with only four players managing to finish under par throughout the tournament, adding a layer of excitement to the competition.
At just 31 years old, Schniederjans’s triumph is particularly poignant. Known for his time as the former No. 1 amateur golfer in the world, he has faced careening obstacles in his career. The weekend play wasn’t without its quirks, as morning fog delayed rounds, requiring players to finish their third rounds on Sunday. Notably, 15-year-old amateur Kartik Singh became the youngest Indian to make the cut in an Asian Tour event, a promising sign for the future of Indian golf.
