Orange County is reeling after a devastating multi-vehicle crash on State Road 408 early Sunday morning. The accident, which took place at around 3:19 a.m. near mile marker 21, resulted in the tragic loss of one life and left three others with serious injuries.
The chaos began when a 2015 Ford Edge traveling eastbound in the center lane failed to notice a prior collision that had already left two vehicles—a 2019 Dodge Durango and a 2007 Ford Expedition—stopped in the same lane. The situation took a turn for the worse when the driver of the Ford Edge crashed into the rear of the Dodge Durango.
At the time of the collision, the driver and some passengers from the Ford Expedition had exited their vehicle and were standing in the roadway, likely unaware of the impending danger. The impact from the Ford Edge not only caused the Durango to lurch forward but also struck the four individuals who were caught in the middle, leading to tragic consequences.
Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene and rushed the victims to nearby hospitals. Sadly, the driver of the Durango, a 35-year-old Orlando resident, was pronounced dead shortly after being transported to AdventHealth East Orlando. Meanwhile, two passengers from the Ford Expedition sustained serious injuries and were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center. Another passenger from the same vehicle was transported to Arnold Palmer Hospital, also suffering from serious injuries.
The driver of the Ford Edge, remarkably, remained at the scene and was deemed not to require hospitalization. As of now, authorities do not suspect any impairment or wrongdoing on the part of the driver of the Ford Edge, but the investigation continues as safety officials piece together the events leading up to this unfortunate situation.
The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is actively investigating the incident to determine all circumstances surrounding the crash. As more details emerge, it’s important for the community to stay aware and informed regarding safety on the roads.
