News Summary

High school juniors and seniors in Orange County, Florida, are participating in a hands-on program by CareerSource Central Florida that introduces them to the construction industry. Students engage with tools and visit major companies, gaining valuable insights and experiences. The program aims to prepare students for future careers while also providing financial incentives. With an increasing demand for skilled workers in Central Florida, this initiative helps bridge the gap in career planning for aspiring students.

Exciting Pathways for Orange County High School Students!

Orlando, Florida, has become the center of attention for dozens of high school juniors and seniors eager to dive into the world of construction! With the help of a fantastic program from CareerSource Central Florida, students are getting a real taste of what it’s like to work in the construction industry through hands-on activities and exciting experiences that prepare them for future career paths.

Getting the Gear On!

Recently, a buzz of activity filled the air as enthusiastic students engaged with power saws, drills, and all sorts of construction tools. It’s not every day that high schoolers get this kind of hands-on training! This thrilling event is part of the newly launched High School Career Express program. The main goal is to assist students in exploring the plethora of career options available and gain insights into the working world—especially within critical industries like construction.

This year, around 100 students from four high schools—East River, Jones, Edgewater, and Lake Buena Vista—are taking part in this amazing 10-week program. Not only are they learning skills, but they are also making connections that could last a lifetime.

Field Trips and Fun Experiences!

One of the highlights of this program is the lineup of visits to various businesses. Over the course of the program, students will explore major companies like Addition Financial, Disney, UCF Rosen College of Hospitality Management, Marriott Vacation Worldwide, and Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress. These field trips provide students with a sneak peek into different industries and the various career opportunities that await them.

To sweeten the deal, students who complete all sessions of the program will take home a cool $100 each week, leading to a whopping total of $1,000 for the entire program. That’s quite the incentive and a nice addition to a future college fund or personal savings!

Exciting Career Options Ahead!

Among the enthusiastic students is Brianna Ali from Lake Buena Vista, who is particularly excited about learning more about medical support training offered by The Amphibious Group. Programs like this showcase the many avenues available in the construction industry, which boasted a wide array of jobs that can cater to different interests and skills.

As students dive into these varied experiences, they are supported by the commitment of CareerSource Central Florida to provide hands-on opportunities that highlight real job experiences. This approach not only helps students visualize their future careers but also equips them with the practical skills necessary for success.

A Bright Future for All!

The importance of preparing students for future job opportunities can’t be overstated, especially since a recent national survey found that while 74% of high school students recognize the importance of having a career plan, only 13% feel fully equipped to map out their paths. This program aims to bridge that gap by ensuring that students are not just dreaming but also planning and preparing for their futures.

The job market in Central Florida is booming with growth fueled by amazing projects, including new amusement parks and hospitals, which is driving the demand for skilled workers in the construction industry. Programs like this are crucial to ensuring students are ready to step into these roles with confidence.

In addition, students can also look forward to CareerSource Central Florida’s Summer Youth Program, which offers three paid internship options. These opportunities allow students aged 14-19 to earn a minimum of $1,200 while gaining valuable training and experience in their chosen careers.

With such programs offering a solid foundation, there’s no doubt that Orange County high school students are gearing up for a bright future in the construction industry and beyond!
