Orlando, Fla. – A dedicated emergency medical technician (EMT) named Scotland Hamlin has received high praise after being selected as one of the 33 Global Medical Response (GMR) Stars of Life. This prestigious honor highlights remarkable acts of service performed by EMS first responders across the nation. The recognition is part of the Stars of Life program, which acknowledges those who have gone above and beyond for their patients, coworkers, and communities.
The award ceremony takes place from November 10-13 at the American Ambulance Association (AAA) Stars of Life Awards Ceremony in Washington, D.C. Hamlin’s outstanding contributions during his career have set him apart as an exemplary member of the EMT community.
Hamlin’s nomination was largely due to his selfless actions while off-duty. He happened upon a situation involving two fellow EMTs who were struggling to manage a combative patient attempting to exit a stretcher. Without hesitation, Hamlin jumped in to offer assistance, demonstrating not only his commitment to patient safety but also his support for his colleagues.
In an interview discussing his recognition, Hamlin expressed his gratitude. “This is a distinction I accept with gratitude,” he stated. “I work with great people, so if there’s ever a time someone needs my help, patient or coworker alike, and I’m available to assist — I’m going to do everything I can to be there for them.”
Christopher Kennison, the operations manager for American Medical Response Orlando, shared his admiration for Hamlin, stating, “This award is among the highest honors an EMS professional can receive. Scotland’s dedication to patient care is unlike anything I’ve seen before. He’s always willing to help his coworkers and patients, even on his day off.” Kennison’s words highlight the importance of teamwork and the spirit of service that underscores the EMS profession.
Scotland Hamlin’s actions embody the values of the emergency medical services, where quick thinking and readiness to help can significantly impact lives. His recognition as a Star of Life serves to inspire both current and future EMTs to exemplify compassion and commitment in their roles.
As Hamlin prepares to participate in the awards ceremony, he is excited to engage with other honorees. This event provides an opportunity for sharing experiences and celebrating the collective impact EMS professionals have on public health and safety. It emphasizes the dedication required to succeed in this demanding field.
Scotland Hamlin’s appointment as a Star of Life shines a spotlight not only on his achievements but also on the vital role of EMTs in our communities. His story reminds us of the dedication required to continuously provide care and support, reinforcing the essential nature of emergency medical services in times of need.
