"Orlando's Festive Season Performances: A Holiday Delight"

Orlando Welcomes a Festive Season of Performances

Orlando is gearing up for an exciting holiday season filled with theatrical performances and musical events that promise to bring joy and cheer to residents and visitors alike. This December, multiple venues across the city will host various festive shows, making it a perfect time for families and friends to come together and celebrate.

What’s Happening?

This month, two major productions will take center stage. The world premiere of “Becoming Santa”, a heartwarming comedy based on true stories, will be performed by DramaJock Productions. This play explores the truth behind Santa Claus and what happens after Christmas. In addition, “The Sugarplum Ball In Concert” will be presented by Wayward Queers Productions, featuring the talented local drag performer Ginger Minj, best known for her appearance on “RuPaul’s Drag Race”.

When and Where?

“Becoming Santa” will be shown on December 5 and 6 at 7:30 PM, and additionally on December 7 with both 2 PM and 7:30 PM performances. All shows will be held at the Festive ArtSpace. Following the play on December 7, attendees can enjoy Christmas caroling by Dickens by Candlelight in the ArtSpace lobby, creating a truly immersive holiday experience.

Meanwhile, “The Sugarplum Ball In Concert” will take place on December 13 and 14, starting at 8 PM each night. This new holiday musical will undoubtedly delight audiences with its festive spirit and engaging performances.

Additional Events

Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” will return to the Hippodrome Theatre, further enriching the holiday experience in Orlando. Furthermore, the Broward Center for the Performing Arts will step into the holiday season by celebrating ten years of performing arts classes in the Rose Miniaci Arts Education Center.

For those looking to ring in the New Year, the Downtown Arts District is hosting its inaugural “Midnight on Magnolia” celebration on December 31, 2024. This event will take place at CityArts from 8:30 PM to 1 AM, offering a vibrant and artistic atmosphere for young professionals and anyone eager to welcome the new year in style.

Why These Events Matter

The programming support grant from Dr. Phillips Charities to the Opera’s upcoming production of Massenet’s Cendrillon highlights the community’s commitment to sustaining rich cultural arts. Such initiatives not only enhance local talent but also encourage community engagement with the arts through diverse performances.

Orlando’s festive season is set to be filled with creativity and merriment. From heartwarming stories and musical celebrations to New Year’s festivities, this vibrant community continues to showcase its commitment to the arts, making it a prime destination for holiday entertainment.
