Orlando Celebrates the Holiday Season with Community Events

Orlando is set to host a series of engaging events this winter, providing locals with opportunities for enjoyment and community connection. From festive holiday celebrations to educational workshops, there’s something for everyone to partake in.

Upcoming Holiday Celebrations

The Baseball Card and Memorabilia Show is scheduled for Dec. 20 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Dec. 21 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Bahia Shrine Center, located at 3101 E. Semoran Blvd. in Apopka. With over 50 tables of dealers, this event invites collectors and enthusiasts alike. The proceeds will support homeless children, making this a perfect opportunity for community involvement. Admission is only $2, and children aged 11 and under can enter for free.

Following the baseball festivities, Chanukah on the Park will take place on Dec. 25 at 5 p.m. in Central Park on Park Avenue, Winter Park. Presented by Chabad of Greater Orlando, this free event includes entertainment, children’s activities, delicious food, and a grand menorah lighting.

Kwanzaa and Further Community Events

On Dec. 26, residents can enjoy a Kwanzaa Celebration from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the SOKO Marketplace in Winter Park. Hosted by the Equity Council Corp., this event features food, drumming, special dance performances, and the opportunity to support black-owned businesses.

Outdoor Activities for the New Year

For those looking to start the new year with health in mind, the Mid-Florida Milers Walking Club is offering walks in Orlando. On Jan. 1, participants can choose between two distances, 10K (6 miles) or 5K (3.1 miles), starting at Miller’s Ale House on Kirkman Road, with registration open from 8:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m.

Another walking event will take place on Jan. 4, where walkers can explore Downtown South Orlando. This walk will showcase historic sites and residential areas, with two distance options available similar to the New Year’s event.

Educational Workshops and Classes

As part of its ongoing educational efforts, the Orange Audubon Society will hold a Beginner Bird Watching class in three parts, starting on Jan. 5. Participants will explore bird species, habitats, and techniques. Classes will take place at various locations including Orlando Wetlands Park and Oakland Nature Preserve, and registration is required.

Moreover, gardening enthusiasts can attend a series of workshops at the UF/IFAS Extension Orange County in January. Topics will cover sustainable landscaping practices, attracting native pollinators, and vegetable gardening, all tailored to foster local environmental stewardship.

Continuous Support Groups and Leisure Activities

For those facing personal challenges, grief support programs will be available throughout January. GriefShare sessions for anyone grieving the loss of a loved one will take place at various locations, including St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. These sessions are designed to help individuals process their grief and find hope.

Additionally, art enthusiasts can participate in the Historic Goldsboro Main Street Art Walk on Jan. 11, starting at 2 p.m. This event features local artists, music, performances, and much more to celebrate the community’s artistic talent.
