Orlando, Florida, and its surrounding areas offer a diverse array of parks and recreational facilities, each managed by various governmental entities to cater to the community’s needs.

City of Orlando Parks and Facilities

The City of Orlando operates numerous parks, community centers, and recreational amenities. The Fleet and Facilities Management Divisions are responsible for the maintenance and repair of city vehicles, buildings, and equipment, ensuring that public spaces remain safe and accessible.

Orange County Parks and Recreation

Beyond the city limits, Orange County manages an extensive network of parks and recreational areas. The Orange County Parks and Recreation Division oversees 109 parks and facilities, including five Orange County Orlando Magic Recreation Centers. They offer a variety of programs for all ages, focusing on environmental education, athletics, aquatics, and host numerous special events.

For maintenance and operational needs, the Facilities Management Division of Orange County ensures that county facilities and equipment are safe and well-maintained.

Notable Parks and Preserves

• Tibet-Butler Preserve: Managed by Orange County Parks and Recreation, this 440-acre preserve offers a nature center, trails, and a butterfly garden, providing visitors with opportunities to explore Florida’s natural habitats.

• Split Oak Forest Wildlife and Environmental Area: Straddling Orange and Osceola counties, this area is managed by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. It focuses on restoring and maintaining habitats critical to upland species, such as the gopher tortoise.

• Magnolia Park: Located on the eastern shore of Lake Apopka, this 56-acre park offers picnic tables, playgrounds, and a boat ramp. It’s managed by Orange County Parks and Recreation.

• Lake Lorna Doone Park: Situated near Camping World Stadium, this 12-acre park underwent an $8 million renovation in 2021 and is managed by the City of Orlando.

• Tosohatchee Wildlife Management Area: Located east of Orlando in Christmas, Florida, this area is managed by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and offers hiking, biking, and wildlife viewing opportunities.
