Orlando Kicks Off UCF’s Roth Tower Expansion Project
Orlando, FL – The University of Central Florida (UCF) is embarking on an ambitious project to expand the Roth Tower at FBC Mortgage Stadium, with an investment of $90 million. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on December 12, 2023, marking the beginning of a significant enhancement to the stadium aimed at increasing revenue and attracting a broader range of events.
What’s Inside the Expansion?
The Roth Tower expansion will cover approximately 58,000 square feet and is designed to enhance premium seating options at the stadium. UCF Athletic Director Terry Mohajir emphasized the initiative’s focus on diversifying event types beyond just football games. Future events could encompass weddings, lectures, charity fundraisers, and even high-profile rocket launches.
Why is this Expansion Important?
This expansion is pivotal for UCF as it aims to boost the revenue of its athletics program by an additional $2.4 million annually. Mohajir pointed out that the enhancements will also allow the stadium to host other sports events. Recently, FBC Mortgage Stadium missed the chance to host the Cure Bowl due to insufficient tower facilities, indicating a strong demand for improved infrastructure.
Funding and Support
The funding for this expansion will come entirely from Orange County through tourist development tax collections. County leaders believe that this project is crucial for maintaining the region’s reputation as a prime location for sports business. Mayor Jerry Demings announced that the Roth Tower expansion is just the first of several sports enhancement projects, with Camping World Stadium also slated for $400 million in upgrades and the Kia Center set to undergo $226 million in renovations.
Timeline for Completion
The construction work for the Roth Tower is planned in phases, with the initial phase focusing on the tower expansion itself, accompanied by the Hagle Football Gateway, a promenade walkway, and VIP parking areas. Mohajir confirmed that the construction will not interfere with the upcoming football season, as the tower will remain operational. The complete expansion is scheduled to be finalized by the start of the fall 2026 football season.

UCF President Alex Cartwright highlighted the exceptional community support for this project. He noted that the commitment from the county to support UCF’s expansion is crucial for the university and the surrounding area. “We’re able to do this because of the support of Orange County, we’re able to do this because of TDT funding,” Cartwright remarked, underlining the value placed on UCF by residents and leaders alike.
