Golf enthusiasts, get ready for some exciting news! Trump International Golf Links is prepping to open a brand new 18-hole championship course called the MacLeod Course, which is slated to welcome players in the summer of 2025. This new addition will bring the total number of holes at the resort to a staggering 36 holes, making it a prime destination for golf lovers who are on the hunt for their next favorite place to tee off.
The MacLeod Course is named in honor of Mary MacLeod Trump, the mother of Donald Trump, who hailed from the beautiful Isle of Lewis. This touch of heritage adds a special flavor to the course, celebrating family roots while also promising to deliver an exceptional golfing experience.
Construction of the MacLeod Course kicked off in the spring of 2024 after securing local council approval three years ago. Designed to feature the largest sand dunes in Scotland, the course aims to be one of the most environmentally friendly and sustainable golf courses ever built. This is a significant move to address past criticisms regarding environmental impact, showing a commitment to protecting nature while offering recreational spaces.
The design process was no small task; it involved a fantastic collaboration with a world-class team of architects and environmental scientists. Notable among them is acclaimed links golf architect Dr. Martin Hawtree, who has been integral in shaping this ambitious project.
Golfers can look forward to breathtaking panoramic views of the North Sea while playing through expansive wetlands and heather-clad heathland. The new course promises a slew of exciting features, including the world’s largest natural bunker, elevated tees perched on dunes, sandy hollows, and extensive playing surfaces. It sounds like the MacLeod Course will be a golfing paradise!
Since its inception in 2012, the original course at Trump International Golf Links has garnered international acclaim, earning its place among the top 50 golf courses globally. This reputation has attracted golfers from around the world, eager to test their skills on a celebrated link.
In a positive step towards ecological sustainability, over one million sprigs of native marram grass have been planted, accompanied by the cultivation of six tons of marram seeds. This initiative has successfully translocated indigenous plant species, creating new habitats for wildlife and marking a promising commitment to the environment.
While Trump has stepped back from day-to-day management of his Scottish golf courses, he still maintains a financial interest. Oversight of the development and operations rests with his sons and trusted executives, ensuring that the project continues to progress smoothly.
As the summer of 2025 draws closer, the anticipation surrounding the MacLeod Course is building! Golf aficionados are buzzing with excitement about this new course set to become a gem in the world of golf. It promises an exemplary blend of beauty, excitement, and sustainability, making it a standout addition to the golfing community.
