The Knights showcased their skills, with standout pitching from Matt Sauser and a solid bullpen effort. UCF demonstrated a powerful offense, scoring multiple runs in key innings, and celebrated their fourth consecutive win. The team prepares for their next challenge against Bryant University, aiming to maintain their impressive start.
Orlando is buzzing with excitement as UCF baseball made a smashing start to their season, defeating the Missouri Tigers with a resounding score of 7-1. This victory not only marked their first game of the season but also propelled the Knights to an impressive 4-0 record, repeating their stellar start from last year and achieving this milestone for the fifth time in seven seasons.
One of the standout performers in this opener was none other than Matt Sauser, who made his highly anticipated debut with UCF. Sauser took control on the mound, pitching a remarkable 4 shutout innings. During this time, he allowed only three hits and two walks, while striking out an impressive four batters. His performance was critical in keeping the Tigers off the scoreboard, laying a solid foundation for the Knights’ victory.
As if Sauser’s debut wasn’t enough, the Knights’ bullpen stepped up to the plate, showcasing their talent and grit. They combined for an additional 5 innings of work, allowing just a single hit and only one run, while racking up six strikeouts. This collective effort was pivotal in ensuring the Knights maintained their lead throughout the game.
UCF wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. They clinched their first run right out of the gate in the bottom of the first inning thanks to a two-RBI double hit by Andrew Sundean. But the excitement didn’t stop there. In the third inning, Andrew Williamson knocked one off the foul pole—a spectacular two-run home run that marked his first of the season and got the crowd roaring.
As the game progressed, the Knights continued to pile on the runs, adding three more in the fifth inning. This came from a series of impressive plays, including contributions from Lex Boedicker, along with yet another sacrifice fly from Sundean. These plays not only showcased the Knights’ depth in batting but also illustrated their all-around team effort.
Leading the charge in hits was DeAmez Ross, who had a stellar performance with three hits out of five plate appearances, making up a third of the team’s total hits. A total of six Knights recorded at least one hit during the game, underlining the teamwork and dynamic offense that UCF is cultivating this season.
This victory marks the Knights’ fourth consecutive win of the season and their third straight victory against teams from the Southeastern Conference (SEC). It’s worth mentioning that UCF hasn’t lost to an SEC team since March 6, 2022, when they faced Ole Miss. Their success against formidable teams showcases their growth and competitive edge.
The Knights are geared up for their next challenge: the first of a three-game series against Bryant University at the iconic John Euliano Park. Fans can look forward to the first pitch on Friday at 6 p.m., where senior right-hander Dom Stagliano is set to take the mound, hoping to continue this winning streak.
With such an electrifying start to the season, UCF baseball is undoubtedly a team to keep an eye on. Fans are encouraged to come out and support their Knights as they aim to build on this momentum in the upcoming games. The atmosphere at the park promises to be lively, and the players are ready to deliver more unforgettable moments. See you at the game!
