The University of Central Florida has welcomed Cole Kozlowski, a linebacker transferring from Colgate, to its football team. Known for his impressive high school and collegiate performance, Kozlowski aims to make a significant impact at UCF as part of their 3-4 defensive scheme. His commitment follows a competitive transfer process, and he is eager to contribute to the team’s success in the upcoming season.
Orlando, Florida – Big news is buzzing around the University of Central Florida as Colgate linebacker Cole Kozlowski has officially decided to join the Knights! This commitment, made on a lively Saturday night, has not only filled fans with anticipation but also adds a substantial boost to the UCF football team.
For those who may not be familiar with this rising star, Cole Kozlowski is no ordinary player. From the scenic town of Spring Lake, New Jersey, he played his high school football at Manasquan High School before setting foot on the collegiate stage. A 2022 graduate, Kozlowski showcased his versatility in high school by participating in football, baseball, and basketball. His skills on the field were so impressive that he took on multiple roles including safety on defense and even a unique offensive position reminiscent of the NFL’s Taysom Hill.
Back then, he stood tall at 6’2″ and weighed about 225 pounds, a combination that contributed immensely to his agility and athleticism.
Kozlowski kicked off his college career at Colgate, where he commanded attention right from the start. Initially gaining experience on special teams in his freshman year, he didn’t stop there. Always striving for excellence, he transitioned into a major role during his sophomore year and completely broke out by his junior year.
In a season that saw his tackle count soar, he went from 60 tackles as a sophomore to an astonishing 133 tackles in his junior year. This accomplishment earned him First Team All-Patriot League honors. On top of that, he recorded 4.5 sacks, eight tackles for loss, an interception, a forced fumble, and seven pass breakups during the 2024 season. With an average of 11 tackles per game, he set his sights on crossing the 100-tackle threshold well before the season began.
In early December, Kozlowski entered the transfer portal, sparking widespread interest with nearly 25 offers from notable programs such as James Madison, Washington State, and Colorado State. Ultimately, it came down to a choice between UCF and Purdue. Following his visit to UCF, he was instantly smitten with the campus atmosphere, warm weather, and the passionate coaching staff.
His discussions with head coach Scott Frost and linebacker coach Mark D’Onofrio left a lasting impression, as they strategized over football drills and fundamental techniques. The impressive facilities, especially the football stadium, resonated with Kozlowski and reinforced his decision to commit to UCF. With a shift toward a 3-4 defensive scheme, the Knights are positioning him to step into the role of the mike linebacker, where he will undoubtedly leverage his previous experience.
His time at Colgate might have prepared him well, but he is particularly excited about the vibrant energy and competitive atmosphere at UCF. When he officially confirmed his commitment to the Knights, he was full of enthusiasm about joining the team and aims to lead the defense as a seasoned linebacker.
As Kozlowski reports to UCF on Wednesday, he is ready to make an immediate impact and is committed to helping revitalize the program’s success. UCF’s fans can look forward to watching this talented athlete in action as he takes on challenges headfirst and contributes to what promises to be an exhilarating season ahead!
