Sponsor Our ArticlesOrlando, Fla. — A significant new development is coming to downtown Orlando, promising to transform the area and bring an influx of people and activity.
The Westcourt project is being developed by JMA Ventures LLC, based in San Francisco, and the Houston-based Machete Group. This ambitious undertaking will reshape a section of downtown with a focus on creating a vibrant urban atmosphere.
Westcourt will feature up to 300,000 square feet of office space as part of a larger development that spans around 900,000 square feet overall. The total cost of the project exceeds $500 million. The aim is to create a space where people can work, dine, and enjoy entertainment in one convenient location.
The site for Westcourt will occupy 8.5 acres along West Church Street, just north of the Kia Center. Its strategic location will help to connect the west side of downtown Orlando to the more developed east side of Interstate 4.
Development plans are already underway, with early stages expected to unfold over the next few years. In addition to Westcourt, Travel + Leisure is set to relocate its headquarters to a nearby building at 501 W. Church St., occupying 182,000 square feet and anticipated to bring around 800 to 1,000 new employees to downtown Orlando as early as next year.
According to Orlando city commissioner and the managing director of CBRE, this project is essential for revitalizing Church Street, which currently lacks a variety of services. “That area is begging to be redeveloped,” they noted, emphasizing the need for such a transformation.
The vision for Westcourt extends beyond just office space. Jere’ Matheny, vice president of brokerage services with First Capital Property Group Inc., mentioned that the project is seen as a connector to the west side of downtown, aligning with plans for the Canopy urban gathering space, which will be located beneath Interstate 4. This development is expected to facilitate larger community events and activities, enhancing the overall vibrancy of the area.
The Westcourt Project represents a significant investment in the future of downtown Orlando, aiming to create a dynamic and engaging environment for both residents and visitors. As construction progresses and new businesses like Travel + Leisure move in, Orlando is on the path to becoming an even more attractive place for work and leisure.
