In an inspiring turn of events, 15-year-old amateur golfer Kartik Singh has achieved a remarkable feat, becoming the youngest Indian to make the cut at an international professional tournament. This talented golfer from Gurugram has captured the attention and admiration of golf enthusiasts everywhere by showcasing his incredible skills at the prestigious DLF Golf & Country Club.
Singh’s journey in the tournament saw him record a total score of four-over-par 148 after completing two rounds. The highlight of his performance came during the second round, where he finished with a stellar score of one-under-par 71. This fantastic round not only demonstrated his talent but also secured his place in the competition, allowing him to comfortably make the cut for the $2 million International Series India tournament.
As competitors strive to outperform, the cut line fell at eight-over-par, and Singh’s total score placed him in a commendable position, tied for 30th place. Impressively, he also ranks as the fourth youngest player to reach the weekend rounds in the history of the Asian Tour.
This event featured some heavy-hitters from the golfing world, including the reigning US Open champion and world No. 12, Bryson DeChambeau. The opening round of the tournament wasn’t easy, with the scoring average on the par-72 course being 76.313. The course proved to be a formidable test for players, as evidenced by the notable 111 double bogeys and 32 scores worse than that throughout the tournament. The challenge continued with a staggering 473 bogeys compared to 313 birdies.
Kartik Singh has made significant progress in his career, transitioning to professional play after a successful run in junior tournaments. Training under the guidance of Deepinder Khullar at the DLF Golf Academy, Kartik’s determination and hard work are clearly paying off. His ability to handle pressure and adapt quickly, even after three weeks of training at a different course, has set him apart from his peers.
Playing alongside golf legends like DeChambeau, Anirban Lahiri, and Joaquin Niemann was a surreal experience for Singh. His poise on the course was undeniable, as he maintained an impressive four-under-par score through the first eleven holes of his second round before finishing with a 71.
As a celebrated achievement, eight other Indian golfers also made the cut in this challenging tournament. Singh, with six wins in World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR)-related events this year, is cognizant of the opportunities ahead. Following the completion of this exciting event, the Asian Tour will be heading to International Series Macau, presenting a new opportunity for golfers to shine.
When asked about his goals moving forward, Kartik expressed enthusiasm about finishing as high as possible in the remaining rounds, showcasing his competitive spirit. Current rankings show Kartik positioned at 129th in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, which allowed him entry into this prestigious 108-man field.
